Sustainable Design

Let’s take this scenario you have just built your dream home only to find that it gets hot in summer and cold in winter and doesn’t perform quite as well as you’d hoped. Choosing a designer that specialises in sustainable design means your dream home now stays cool in summer and warm in winter, this is one of the biggest investments you will make and something that you will continue to enjoy and save you money the life of your home.

Great features

So what's all the fuss about?

Below are a few key features of an energy efficient home.

All about design

When we are talking about a sustainable design we are referring ONLY to the design of the building.

Our aim is to design a building in such a way that it works with your site, it uses the sun to heat and light your home and the natural breeze to cool it, we want your home to be an extension of the land and feel as though it has always been there rather than something unnatural.

We do this by having a building energy assessor work closely with us during the design phase of your new home to ensure that it is as energy efficient as possible. Currently a 10 Star rating is the highest rating achievable for an Australian home and something we aim for on each one of our projects.

Compare the market

We compared the average 3 Star home found across NSW to the exact same home but with a 10 Star energy rating and found that a 10 Star home is 25x more energy efficient than the majority of homes already built.

Benefits

A few benefits of designing your home with 10 Star and coming up with your own 10 Star design include:
• An energy efficient design.
• Reduced carbon footprint.
• Thermally comfortable all year round.
• Increased market value.
• Potential to be self-sufficient.

Now for all the nitty-gritty

So now that we have caught your attention, click on the tabs below and you can find out more information relating to our sustainable design services, the process and all its benefits.

Have you heard the saying a good design is a smart investment? Choosing a designer for your next project is an important decision, you put a great deal of faith in them to translate your ideas, dreams and requirements into a built form, however the question that is often overlooked at this stage is that although it may look aesthetically pleasing does it work well?

Let’s take this scenario you have just built your dream home only to find that it gets hot in summer and cold in winter and doesn’t perform quite as well as you’d hoped. Choosing a designer that specialises in sustainable design means your dream home now stays cool in summer and warm in winter, this is one of the biggest investments you will make and something that you will continue to enjoy and save you money the life of your home.

We place sustainable design at the cornerstone of 10 Star’s design philosophy, not only is each plan designed to suite your site and surroundings but we aim to create a relationship to work with it as well.

By combining our knowledge in design with sustainable practices we get a building that gives you both immediate and long lasting lifestyle and health benefits and the peace of mind that you are doing your part to help the environment.

It all starts with a good design.

What we do is invite the outside in, we allow your home to be cooled by the breeze and be warmed by the sun. All our plans are specifically designed for your site and designed to work with it and all the natural elements.

In theory having a 10 Star rated home means that whether it's 40 degrees outside or minus 4, the inside of your home will stay at a relatively comfortable temperature without the need for an air-conditioned or heater.

By concentrating so much effort on creating a sustainable design we are left with a home that uses it's environment to its full potential, this is true sustainability. We are able to then add extras like water tanks and solar panels to create a home that is self sufficient and a home that will be doing its part to help the environment.

The first step would be for you to contact us and tell us all about your next project and organise a time to meet. To make things easy once you are happy to go ahead with 10 Star PTY LTD we have broken the whole process up into 3 simple stages:

  1. Pre-design
  2. Design development
  3. Approval

Consultation

The first step would be to contact 10 Star PTY LTD and give us a brief overview of your project, we will then schedule a consultation where we meet with you at your home or proposed site for an initial consult and to expand on what we previously talked about.

We are able to then look at initial site features, existing conditions, and to discuss briefly if your grand plans are compatible with the site/your budget/timeframe. There is no-obligation to commit to any further design services.

Pre-Design

The second step involves a site survey and completing a brief development which goes into further detail about your wish-list and will form the project brief. A project brief will go over more thoroughly the scope, site limitations, quality, budget and possibilities of your site and will set up for the next stage.

Concept Design

We would use your project brief and site survey to create a concept design. A Quantity Surveyor would also be engaged at this time once a design has been finalised.

Design Development

Full resolution of the project with more detail including interior design, materials and finishes, fittings and fixtures, services. At this stage we would work alongside our in house energy assessor.

Development Application

All relevant and required Development Application drawings and reports are finalised for lodgment at your local council for Development Application approval. All relevant consultants are also contacted for approval.

Construction Certificate

Once Development Application has been approved working drawings, schedules and specification for Construction Certificate are finalised. All relevant consultants are also contacted for approval.

10 Star PTY LTD is qualified in both energy efficient design and energy assessing, the two of these go hand in hand to create a building that is both architecturally beautiful and energy efficient. Unlike other practices that may use external energy consultants which would be very costly, having an in house energy assessor means that your project is constantly scrutinised to ensure that it reaches the 8 star minimum we aim for in all our projects.
